 the kittens have arrived:
Yes, we have kittens! Loads of kittens.
Heaps of kittens.
Mountains of kittens!
New kittens arrive every Friday! Kittens are made available as soon as they are spayed and neutered. They can have surgery as soon as they reach 2 pounds, which is right around 8 weeks to 12 weeks depending on the kitten. At this age they will not have all their vaccinations, but they are provided as part of the adoption fee. The kittens will need to return in one to three weeks for their final vaccinations, which takes about five minutes.
Keep in mind that the new kittens posted online on Friday morning may not have had surgery due to the large numbers of kittens and cats that need done. They will still be available for viewing and for adoption, but they will not be able to go home with you until they have their surgery, which will be performed by the following Friday. Kittens that have not been spayed or neutered will be removed from the website by 4pm on Friday until they have their surgery.
KITTENS ARE AVAILABLE AT THE BOARDMAN PETSMART EVERYDAY!! Please stop and visit to check availability. To see Angels for Animals staffed hours at Petsmart click here.
WANT THE YOUNGEST KITTEN POSSIBLE? HOW DOES 2 DAYS OLD SOUND? FOUR WEEKS? Check out the details on fostering below!
DON'T SEE ONE THAT INTERESTS YOU RIGHT NOW? Check back every Friday morning! Kittens that are scheduled for their spay or neuter on Friday will have their photos posted that morning! We have kittens being abandoned and new ones entering the foster program on a daily basis, although they must have their spay and neuter surgery and room must be available in the building before we can post them online.
WANT TO TAKE ONE HOME THE SAME DAY YOU DRIVE TO
ANGELS?
Get pre-approved! Applications must be submitted by the Thursday night
prior to the weekend you’re planning on visiting. The two page
applications are available online here: and can be faxed directly to the
shelter at 330-549-5708, or scanned and e-mailed to
cats@angelsforanimals.org. Just write “I want kittens!” at the top
of the application. If you already know which kitten you want, write
their name and their ID number at the top of the application as well.
Remember to include a phone number where you can be reached on Friday
afternoons. Phone calls will be returned by Friday at 4pm at the latest!
Applications that are received earlier in the week will receive phone
calls within 48 hours.
Even without pre-approval, we can often approve adoptions the same day
you visit and you’ll be able to take your new family member home with
you immediately. However – THE ONLY WAY YOU CAN FOR CERTAIN TAKE HOME
A KITTEN OR A CAT THE SAME DAY IS TO BE PRE-APPROVED.
LOOKING FOR YOUR DREAM KITTEN AND CAN'T FIND IT
ANYWHERE?
Let us know what you’re looking for! We can hold your application until
we get a match, and we’ll call you as soon as he or she is spayed or
neutered and ready to go home. Keep in mind that if you’re looking for
an unusual or hard to find color or breed it may be MONTHS until someone
comes across our doorstep carrying your dream kitten. However, we will
keep that application on file (and in our memories – we won’t forget!)
until we can match you with your purrfect friend. And think about being
flexible - while we may never get in a kitten that matches the
description, we may get an adult (or quite a few) during the time you’re
waiting for a kitten, and the adults were once little kittens, too!
SO YOU WANT TO KNOW MORE ABOUT FOSTERING LITTLE
BABIES?
We can help you with that, but you have to be willing to help us out, too! IWith
the Foster Care program you can bring home kittens that are as young as two
days old - but they can’t be taken home alone. Any kitten going to a
foster home must stay with its mother (if it was abandoned with one) and
its siblings until they can all be fixed and room opens in our adoption
center.
Kittens are abandoned constantly at our shelter, and because of the high
number of abandoned animals, we just can’t help them all without getting
help ourselves. We only have so many foster homes to hold these cats and
kittens until they reach 2 pounds and are ready to get their surgery
which enables them to go to new homes – and as soon as a foster homes
opens up it is filled again, which means the next litter coming in the
door doesn’t have a chance.
We understand that fostering can sound like a real chore, and we never
want to overload anyone. Mothers with kittens are the hardest to find
foster homes for, because everyone thinks that little kittens must be so
hard to care for. However, mom does most of the work, and by the time
the kittens start getting rambunctious they’re large enough to re-home.
We also get kittens that are abandoned without mothers constantly. We
most often see mothers dropped with kittens that are under a week old,
and kittens come in without mothers as soon as they start eating hard
food which can be as young as four weeks (even though they really need
to be with their moms until they are at least 8 weeks old).
We provide all the food and litter you need to care for the kittens you
take until we can get them scheduled to come into the building. All it
will cost you is a room in your home and the time you spend caring for
them!
And the best part? You get the pick of the litter. You get the first
choice out of all the kittens you are fostering. Can’t find one that is
the perfect fit for your home? Don’t feel guilty, just bring them all in
when they’re scheduled and take another group! BY FOSTERING, YOU BECOME
THE ANGEL. Any kitten you take and foster until we can fix it and get it
a new home is a kitten that was saved from a fate that NO cat or kitten
should EVER face.
Sounds like something you want to do, or you want to know more about it
before deciding? Contact our foster coordinator at 330-506-0326,
