Auditor Sciortino Announces Partnership with
Angels for Animals to Sell Mahoning County Dog Licenses

On Saturday January 12, 2008 at 11:00 a.m., Mahoning County Auditor, Attorney Michael V. Sciortino, will hold a press conference at Angels for Animals to announce that he has allowed Angels to be an authorized Mahoning County dog licenses agent.  Through this partnership, the public is now able to purchase their dog licenses from Angels and people adopting dogs from Angels will be able to purchase their license before leaving the shelter with their new pet.

Sciortino is "thrilled that Angels is now able to sell dog licenses.  It makes perfect sense - the location is convenient for dog owners in the Beaver and Green Township area, and all of the newly adopted dogs from Angels can leave the shelter licensed from day one.  I have gotten a number of requests from constituents, as well as Angels, to sell dog tags at the shelter.  It really made no sense to me that Angels was not an agent already.  It's a win-win situation for all involved...especially for our loveable pets!"

Angels for Animals Board Member, Attorney Matt Ditchey, is also excited about the partnership.  "This is a convenient way for people to comply with the law and get their dog licenses.  Many lost dogs have found their way home because they were wearing their licenses, and operations at the dog pound are funded through the license sale.  It should work out well."

Auditor Sciortino added that dog license procedures are dictated by Ohio law where all dogs 3 months of age and older must be licensed each year between December 1 and January 31.  Dogs acquired ager January 31 must be licensed immediately to avoid penalties.  The County Auditor's office is responsible for the issuance and record-keeping of dog licenses, and the Auditor may also authorize agents throughout the county to issue licenses and collect fees.

For 2007, dog owners in Mahoning County purchased 29,795 licenses between December 1, 2006 and January 31, 2007.  Licenses are $15.00 if purchased by January 31.  If purchased after January 31, the license price is $30.

License can be purchased at Angels for Animals, which is located at 4750 State Route 165 in Beaver Township, during their public hours: Monday and Friday 6:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m., Saturday 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. and Sunday 12:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

A list of other locations throughout Mahoning County where dog licenses can be purchased is available on the Auditor's website - www.mahoningcountyauditor.org under the FORMS tab or by calling the office at 330-740-2010.  Licenses can also be purchased from the Dog Warden's office in person or through the mail.
